I think I might have a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI), what should I do?
Date: 2005/05/02
There are a number of common signs of an STI. These include genital discharge, irritation when urinating (peeing), genital itching, noticeable pelvic pain, and skin changes. However, many people may have an STI and not even know it. Eighty percent of women do not have symptoms and 20% of men do not have symptoms of STIs. If you think you may have been exposed to an STI, see a doctor. STI tests are not done routinely in clinics or doctors' offices. People must specifically request to be tested for STIs. All testing is confidential. Multiple partners increase the risk of exposure to STI. To prevent getting an STI, remember to practice safer sex, use condoms, practice monogamy (having one sexual partner), or abstinence (having no sexual partners), and go for STI testing - 2 or 3 times a year if you have multiple partners. |
