A.I.D.S. ( Acquired Immuno-deficiency Syndrome) is caused by a virus called H.I.V. (Human Immuno-deficiency Virus).
There is no cure for H.I.V.
H.I.V. is transmitted by:
- Sexual intercourse with an infected person
- Receiving infected blood
- Sharing needles and syringes
- An infected mother to a baby, either before or during birth, or through breast feeding
You can reduce the risk of getting the virus by practising "safer sex"
- using a condom every time you have either anal or vaginal
intercourse. (See FAQ entitled "How do you use a condom?" for information on how to use a condom).
Also, sexual partners can give each other pleasure in ways that do not
involve sexual intercourse - feel free to explore!
